What Causes These Types of Veins and Blood Vessels?

There are a couple of different types of veins that appear on or underneath the skin that can be treated by a cosmetic laser procedure. Unattractive veins are caused by blood pooling in the vein rather than flowing like normal. The pooling blood creates pressure and the vein wall weakens. • Varicose veins – These are normally much more pronounced and appear bulging and twisted beneath the skin.
• Varicose veins are dark blue in color and look like tunnels. They can cause pain, throbbing, burning, or a heavy feeling.
• Spider veins – Having a spider-like pattern, these veins are usually much smaller, red, purple or blue in color, and many times are only visible on the face or legs.
• Varicose or spider veins can appear in people who stand a considerable amount of time on a daily basis, during pregnancy, due to aging or obesity, genetics, trama to the vein (s), and/or prior surgery. Women are twice as likely to develop vein problems.
• To help avoid varicose or spider veins, take breaks from standing, prop the legs up above the heart, do not wear high heels or shoes without adequate support, lose excess weight and exercise.
