Microchanneling is similar to microneedling. Microchanneling is a skin treatment where a handheld tool with precision micro-tips are tapped into the skin creating uniform microchannels which stimulate collagen production. The mechanism of action is the same as with microneedling and obtains the same results. Microchanneling stimulates a process called neocollagenesis ( stimulating, building and forming new collagen). Each microchannel is surrounded by healthy tissue that activates the healing process. In response to these tiny injuries, the body’s inflammatory healing process is activated and generates the production of new collagen and elastin. It is efficacious for hyperpigmentation and melasma by breaking up pigment mechanically and reconstructing the collage. However, Microchanneling has a unique precision tip that allows treatment for greater surface areas, is relatively pain free and clients see instant improvement of their skin as when compared with the microneedling pen. Microchanneling leads to less down time and service time when compared to microneedling. Microchanneling accomplishes this because of its tool design and stamping method. Microchanneling utilizes smaller needles (0.25mm – 1.0mm) as compared to microneedling (0.25mm – 2.5mm)
